I have never made homemade biscuits before. I usually buy the frozen Pillsbury ones...and those are pretty darn tasty if you ask me. I was out of those and had everything that was needed for homemade ones so I decided to try it out.
This is the recipe I used:
-2 cups all-purpose flour
-1 teaspoons sugar-1 tablespoon baking powder
-1 teaspoon salt
-8 tablespoons butter, cubed
-3/4 cup milk
In a large bowl combine flour, sugar, baking powder and salt together.
Cut butter into mixture until it begins to look like cornmeal.
Tip: I used a cheese grater to "grate" the butter. It was easier to incorporate into the mixture that way.
Make a well with flour mixture and slowly add milk into the middle.
Knead dough with your fingers and add milk when necessary.
Roll out dough onto a lightly floured surface and roll out to desired thickness.
Cut with small biscuit cutter.
Butter bottom of skillet and place biscuits in pan. Bake for 12 minutes or until golden brown.
So some of them rose higher than others...and they weren't as golden as I typically like.
But, they were really good. I definitely need to make them some more to perfect them.
I don't have a sifter (gasp!), so for next time I will get one to see if that makes a difference.
The husband loved them and they were delicious with sausage and cheese :)
My favorite way to eat biscuits is with butter honey!
Do you make homemade biscuits or stick to Pillsbury?
