I saw this image on Pinterest:
I know this is how they paint your nails at the nail salon, so I decided to try it out.
I can definitely tell you that it is probably MUCH easier to do this on someone else instead if your own nails, but I did my best.
I used my favorite base/top coat from Essie. It really does make your nail polish last longer and I would highly recommend it.
Here is the dot technique:
It made a big difference not going all the way to skin as it kept me from getting nail polish all over my skin like I normally do. Notice in the picture from Pinterest that the nail polish isn't all the way to the edges of the nail.
Here are my nails after 2 coats:
I finished with the Essie top coat.
Try this out next time you paint your nails and see if it makes a difference!
